Working for the sector

why mpqc is needed

The Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC) is a not-for-profit organization that sets and maintains standards for qualifications in the mineral products industry. It was established in 1983 and is based in the United Kingdom. We are proud that our membership covers a wide breadth of organisations, from sole traders to multi-national corporations. Any business that sits within quarrying, mineral products, mining, construction and related manufacturing sectors can apply to become a member.

MPQC is formed of two divisions; MP Awards and MP Skills. The two divisions operate independently of one another and are governed and regulated by a range of Government Bodies and Independent Regulators.

The MPQC's purpose is to:

  • Fulfil the extractive sector's need for a safe, competent and sustainable workforce through the setting and maintaining of standards and qualifications, ensuring quality training and assessment.
  • Provide a range of services to support the development of a skilled and competent workforce in the mineral products industry.
  • Promote the importance of training and qualifications in the mineral products industry.
  • Work with other organizations to ensure that the mineral products industry has access to the skills and knowledge it needs to operate safely and effectively.

The MPQC's qualifications are accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) and are recognized by employers and training providers across the UK. The MPQC also offers a range of other services, including:

  • Training and development: The MPQC offers a range of training and development courses for employers, employees and contractors in the mineral products industry.
  • Assessment: The MPQC provides assessment services for employers and training providers in the mineral products industry.
  • Research and development: The MPQC supports research and development into new training and assessment methods for the mineral products industry.

The MPQC is a valuable resource for employers, employees and contractors in the mineral products industry. Its qualifications, training and development courses, and assessment services can help to ensure that the industry has a skilled and competent workforce that can operate safely and effectively.

Here are some of the benefits of the MPQC's qualifications:

  • Recognition by employers: The MPQC's qualifications are recognized by employers across the UK. This means that employees who hold MPQC qualifications are more likely to be employed in the mineral products industry.
  • Improved career prospects: The MPQC's qualifications can help employees to improve their career prospects. By demonstrating their skills and knowledge through MPQC qualifications, employees can make themselves more attractive to employers.
  • Increased earning potential: Employees who hold MPQC qualifications can earn more than those who do not. This is because employers are willing to pay more for employees who have the skills and knowledge that are required to do the job safely and effectively.
MPQC Governance

The MPQC Board has the support of the major mineral companies, trade associations and professional bodies and are owned by our members and governed by the industry. The Council supports the Board in guiding the strategic direction of MPQC. The Council consists of MPQC members from across the sector, alongside a number of key industry stakeholders.

Board & Council

We are led by a Board of Senior Directors from major mineral companies and trade associations. In addition to the usual governance responsibilities of any Board, the MPQC Board formulate and agree on policies and the strategic direction of MPQC. The Council provides a forum in which all sectors of the mineral products industry are represented to ensure that the assessment, qualification and training needs of employers, large and small, are properly considered and catered for.

If you are an employer, employee, or contractor in the mineral products industry, we encourage you to learn more about the MPQC and its qualifications. By doing so, you can help to ensure that you have the skills and knowledge you need to operate safely and effectively in the industry.
