Vacancy: Standards Manager
Objectives
- To lead the development of MPQC’s SSO function for the benefit of the sector.
- To provide strategic and operational management of MPQC’s Standards Setting Organisation division.
- To work with multiple stakeholders to ensure the skills and training needs of the sector are understood and a clear strategy is in place to ensure future competency.
- To develop new NOS and review existing NOS to support industry needs around skills, training and qualifications
- To apply for required funding and project manage SSO activity as required (funded and non funded)

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- In partnership with other industry organisations, commission or develop a comprehensive labour market intelligence survey to ensure adequate labour market data is available
- Commission or facilitate analysis of the LMI data to establish current and future skills and training needs for industry
- To work with stakeholders to develop a short, medium and long term strategy that meets the needs of the industry around skills and training needs
- To consult on existing and new NOS requirements and manage working groups to gain consensus on required developments
- Undertake new projects and initiatives for the SSO, driven by industry employers. This would include (but is not restricted to) securing new funded contracts for developing NOS and qualifications and designing and delivering new ‘non-funded’ projects.
- Providing or supervising the effective technical administration for such projects.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with key UK stakeholders, including UKCES, SQA, Welsh Government, relevant Sector Skills Councils and Standards Setting Bodies and representing MPQC at key meetings and events when required.
- Monitoring developments in the external environment that could impact upon, or inform the work of the MPQC SSO. Contributing to MPQC becoming an authoritative ‘voice’ on skills and employment issues for the sector.
- Effective project management of all SSO projects, some of which could be driven by requirements and deadlines of funding agencies or partner organisations.
- Provide regular input to MPQC management team, Council and Pillar leads on SSO related issues
- Manage contractors and suppliers of services to MPQC SSO

Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience working within a standards setting organisation and role
- Proven project Management skills
- Strong technical knowledge
- Working knowledge of national occupational standards and competence frameworks
- Engagement and communication with multiple stakeholders – internal and external to organisation
- Experience of funding applications/bids
- Presentation skills/communication skills
- Proven ability to facilitate working groups and gain consensus
- Professionalism, confidence and gravitas
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Mineral products sector of similar
- Experience working in membership organisation
- Knowledge of LMIs and skills gap analysis
